Scion is a dynamic and creative wine business. We craft fruit from traditional Rutherglen varieties into wines that are not so traditional in appeal. Scion | pronounced 'Sigh-on' G.F. Morris, of Fairfield Vineyard, was one of the founders of Rutherglen's wine industry in the late 1800's. Writing a new chapter of this famous Rutherglen family story are great great granddaughter Janice Milhinch, and great great great grandson Rowland. Scion is a small boutique wine business in Rutherglen, North-East Victoria. Developed from bare earth in 2002 by Jan Milhinch. The vineyard, winery and cellar door are now managed by son Rowly Milhinch The 8 acre vineyard sits on a gentle slope in red loam/quartz soil, is minimally irrigated, mulched, hand pruned and hand picked; essentially managed by hand throughout the season. When the grapes arrive at the winery, 400m up the hill from the vineyard, they continue to be managed by hand. Orange Muscat, Viognier, Durif and Brown Muscat are the grape varieties grown - varieties that have existed in Rutherglen for many years. However the wine styles created at Scion are very distinct, and are by no means traditional in appeal. Scion's speciality is to craft distinctive and interesting wines from traditional Rutherglen grape varieties.
