Lowering of Lake Mulwala

Council has been advised that Lake Mulwala is to be lowered to control invasive aquatic weed.

The lowering will present an opportunity for landowners fronting the lake to carry out maintenance and reconstruction of retaining walls, jetties, boat ramps, etc.

People wishing to carry out such works are reminded that development consent is required before any works may be commenced.

Therefore people are advised to lodge a development application with Council immediately. Approval for these works in NSW is granted under Murray

Regional Environmental Plan No. 2, which requires any applications to be referred to a number of Government Agencies plus advertising for 28 days.

Lowering of the lake will commence in late April 2009.

The lake level will be lowered to 5.4 metres below full storage level by early June 2009 and held constant until about mid July. Refilling will then commence.
