This web page is an initiative of the Corowa/Rutherglen Health and Social Support Committee. Its aim is twofold.
Around 4.4 million Australians make a difference in their local community by volunteering each year, doing a wide range of tasks for a wide range of not-for-profit organisations. People volunteer for many reasons and in many different ways. There is a great deal of satisfaction that comes from making a difference. Volunteers can experience working for causes they are interested in, or assist in creating change in areas that are important to them. They can also build new skills, meet new people and add variety to their work experience. The purpose of this web page is to provide information about the choice of volunteer work in Corowa Shire and attempts to link volunteer skills, interests and personal preferences with local groups and organisations. Its purpose is to make it easier for volunteers to make a difference in their local community by helping them find volunteer roles that suit their requirements. What Volunteers Can Offer
Why People Volunteer
Involving Young People Young people (aged 16 to 24 years old) are a growing volunteer base.
According to the ABS statistics (2000) the biggest growth area in volunteering was youth. There was an increase in participating 18-24 year olds from 16.6% to 26.8% between 1995 and 2000. Young People and Volunteering (see document below) provides more information about specific skills young people have to offer and what they can gain from volunteering experiences.
How can I get my group or organisation listed? Out of courtesy to the volunteers who have shown interest, it would be appreciated if you could endeavour to respond to all enquiries even if it's just a short email letting them know that no opportunities exist at the present time. How do I find a volunteering position in Corowa Shire? Take a look at the current list (updated regularly) of organisations and groups seeking volunteers and email or phone the contact person.
