Corowa 87.6FM will be launched on Friday 23rd September from its base at Unit Y, 44 Queen Street Corowa. The Community Radio project was funded by Murray Arts under the "Art Start" program and is supported by Corowa High School and Corowa Shire Council. Over the past 10 weeks, community radio operator, Paul Fitzgerald, has provided students from Corowa High School with vital information about how to operate and maintain the equipment, the techniques needed to host different types of radio shows such as talkback, music and documentaries and provided opportunities for them to practice the skills needed to interview people, plan shows, record and broadcast live. Students who have completed the training will now take over the management of the radio station, which runs 24/7, and will work with other members of the community to help them put together their own shows and/or regular segments. Corowa FM will support local activities and be a means to promote Corowa to visitors and increase attendance at events and activities happening during peak periods. It will also be an opportunity to learn about different types of music and other cultures as well as an update for locals about 'what's on' in Corowa and to listen to results of local sporting events.
