Each year the Corowa Community Safety and Crime Prevention sub-committee holds a safety expo in Corowa. The 2009 Safety Expo.,held on 1st November, had 15 safety organisations exhibiting and attracted more than 120 people to a great family focused event. NSW firebrigade gave a demo of how easily a saucepan of oil can catch on fire and a vivid demo of why you should NEVER use water to put out a fat fire. The Rural Fire Service gave kids a go at controlling the force behind a fire hose while Country Energy showed how they use a cherry picker to get to otherwise "out of reach" places to ensure that electricity supplies are maintained.
There was heaps of information about safety of alls sorts including crime prevention, waste disposal and how to prepare your family and home for bush fire season.
Younger people had the opportunity to try on a firemans suit and helmet, have a go in the interactive fire engine and to find out the effects that drinking alcohol have on people by using 'beer goggles'.
A free healthy breakfast and information on how to keep your body healthy was supplied by Uncle Toby's and music was provided throughout the day by the Corowa Band and Blue Light Disco.
